Can you believe I've never seen a Harry Potter movie before?

I'm like 25 years out of the game! Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone the movie came out on November 16, 2001! Where the hell was I? I think I had just graduated not too shortly before that from college and was working my first "real" job as a Skills Trainer, working with Children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. I think the first book also came out when I was a freshman in college, so I never heard of it.
Though I should've heard of it when I was working in the schools with my clients. I guess I never bothered to pick it up for a read, and so I have never seen a movie until this past month. Plus I'm not into fantasy movies too much. Maybe that was a turn off too.
So why all of a sudden I'm a Pot Head at 46 years old? It all started because I took my family to a symphony that was playing the music of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1 movie score. I thought it was just the orchestra playing music to clips of the movie, but they actually played along to the movie and showed the whole thing. I went for the art of the music, not the movie. I just wanted to hear the instruments, but they did so amazing that as the movie played you forgot they were there. Sounded like it was the movie sound.
I know my kids have been listening to the audio books and that drives me nuts in the car so I tune it out because of the narrator's voice, but after seeing the Deathly Hallows and asking the kids about who's who and what's that, and why they do this and that, I figure I try and watch it from the beginning to catch up to speed with them.
It's fun! Something I can talk to the kids about and be cool with them. Be throwing spells at them and they counter with one of their own. This is what "barely daddying" is all about! Having fun with the kids, and time just flies by while you of course watching them and making memories. Now my cool dad factor went up a couple points.
So that's what I did all weekend was watch the first 3 movies. They haven't seen the 4th one yet so we are going to watch it together! Now if we can only get mommy to come join us! Expecto Patronum!
P.S. Dad tip. Go rent them from your public library. Our library rents them $1/dvd per week. Easy! Better than renting them all from Amazon Prime and Apple TV at $4 each! I got all four for $4, not just one on internet tv. Save money and you can make a Harry Potter Marathon if you like. They are kind of long though at 2 1/2 hrs each. Have fun!
